Beyond the Chair: Meet Natalie Archer, Restorative Dentist and Netball Enthusiast

Meet Natalie Archer: Our New Restorative Dentist whose passion for dentistry is matched only by her love for netball. Whether she’s caring for patients or leading her team on court, Natalie brings energy, precision, and heart to everything she does.

At Devonshire House, we love getting to know our team beyond the dental chair. Today, we caught up with Natalie Archer who recently joined our team as a restorative dentist whose passion for dentistry is matched only by her love for netball. Whether she’s caring for patients or leading her team on court, Natalie brings energy, precision, and heart to everything she does.

A Life Beyond Dentistry

When she’s not transforming smiles, Natalie is on the netball court—often four times a week with three different teams! Having played since she was 11, she now captains her local team and has experience coaching junior players. From social leagues to county divisions, her commitment to the sport demonstrates her teamwork, leadership, and competitive spirit.

“I love the variety netball brings,” Natalie says. “Being captain isn’t just about playing—you’re supporting people, helping them grow, and creating a sense of togetherness. It’s such a joy, and it really helps me unwind after a busy day.”

Natalie also enjoys pub quizzes, particularly the music rounds, where her impressive knowledge of 80’s music has helped her team come out on top. The combination of netball, quizzes, and spending quality time with her husband helps Natalie maintain a well-balanced life outside of dentistry.

The Journey to Restorative Dentistry

As the first in her family to go to university, Natalie discovered her interest in dentistry during a work experience placement. Being allowed to use a handpiece on a plastic tooth might have seemed simple, but it sparked her curiosity about the precision and care involved in clinical dentistry.

After qualifying, she pursued a highly specialised NHS training pathway in restorative dentistry, blending prosthodontics (restoring missing teeth), periodontics (gum health), and endodontics (root canal treatment). This comprehensive training allows her to guide patients through their treatment journey with continuity and a holistic understanding of their needs.

“It’s the variety that inspires me,” she explains. “One day I might be supporting a cancer patient through their treatment, and the next I’m restoring the smile of someone born without adult teeth. Seeing how dentistry can transform confidence is incredibly rewarding.”

Patient Care and Empathy

Natalie’s approach to patient care is grounded in empathy. Growing up with a mother who was nervous about dental visits gave her a real understanding of patient anxiety. She is committed to clear, compassionate communication, ensuring patients always feel informed and in control.

“I always try to put myself in the patient’s position,” Natalie explains. “What would I want my own family to experience at the dentist? Prioritising comfort and confidence in the dental chair underpins everything I do.”

Looking Ahead

Natalie is completing her specialist training, aiming to become a restorative consultant within a hospital setting, with qualifications that could allow her to specialise further in prosthodontics, periodontics, and endodontics. Along the way, she gains experience across multiple hospitals, treating complex cases and working with a wide range of specialists.

Natalie combines her clinical time with an extensive research portfolio; she shared with us why she finds combining clinical and academic work important “being able to conduct research means that I can promote advances in the dental field and make sure I am always providing patients with the latest techniques and the highest standard of care”.

Fun Facts About Natalie

  • She’s a netball enthusiast, playing competitively and socially, and captains her local team.
